Terms of use
The planner and its pages are free to use. They are a general guide, so check with local authorities and local experts before you buy, plant or dig. By using the site you agree to these terms.

A general guide, not advice
Everything on bloooooooom.com, the plans the planner makes and the facts about each plant, is general information for gardeners. It is not professional horticultural, landscaping, veterinary or medical advice. We check the plant facts against published references, but references disagree, plants vary, and we make mistakes. We cannot promise that anything here is complete, correct or up to date, or that it suits your garden.
Your garden is not the one the planner imagines. Your soil, drainage, shelter, frost pockets and local climate can all change what grows. Hardiness zones, sizes and flowering times are typical figures, not promises.
Check with your local authorities
Rules about plants are local, and they change. Before you buy or plant, check:
- Invasive and banned plants. A plant that is harmless in one region can be invasive, a regulated noxious weed or banned from sale in the next. Check your provincial, state and municipal lists. The planner leaves out plants that are widely listed as invasive, but its lists are not complete for every place.
- Local bylaws and agreements. Your municipality, homeowners' association or lease may limit what you plant and where, such as near roads, sidewalks, property lines and pools.
- Local expertise. Your local extension office, Master Gardeners or a good local nursery knows your conditions better than any website.
Safety in the garden
- Before you dig, have buried pipes and cables marked. It is free. In the United States, call 811. In Canada, request a locate from your province's one-call service, such as Ontario One Call; clickbeforeyoudig.com lists them all.
- Poisonous plants. Many common garden plants are poisonous to people, pets or livestock. Where we say a plant is toxic, take it seriously. Where we record no toxicity, that does not make it safe to eat, and not every plant has been checked. Never eat any plant, or give it to an animal, because of something on this site.
- Skin, eyes and allergies. Some plants have sap, hairs or pollen that irritate the skin or eyes, or cause allergies. Wear gloves, and wash your hands after handling plants.
- If a person or pet eats a plant and seems unwell, call for help at once. In an emergency, call 911. For a person: in Canada, your poison centre at 1-844-POISON-X (1-844-764-7669); in the United States, Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222. For a pet: your vet, or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at 1-888-426-4435 (a fee may apply).
